sometimes blogs happen
I promised a long time ago to discuss some personal productivity tools I use. Today we will talk about an RSS reader. I know they have been around for forever... but sometimes I am a bit slow to implement new software if I have a system I am comfortable with. On average I read about 40 blogs per week and that number grows week by week. The ones I read range from different people in ministry, recording artists, pastors, thinkers and authors to news blogs, technology blogs, and business blogs. In the past I had every blog neatly bookmarked in my browser and would read them at night after work was done. It just took too long and many times I had to sift through info that I really didn't care about.
So it was time to setup my RSS reader. I downloaded NewsFire (http://www.newsfirerss.com/) for Mac and then entered the RSS feeds from all the blogs I read on a weekly basis.
Now I can see a feed view of every blog I read. I can skip stuff that holds no interest for me, read what I want to and leave the rest. This cut the length of my evening routine in half. It helps me find the important stuff very quickly in a large amount of information. Do you RSS? If so what do you use? Let me know in the comments!
I am working to get a couple of my good friends to do some guest posts on some related subjects over the next couple of weeks. One is a Lead Sound Engineer for another church and the other is the Marketing Director for a large telecommunications company. Should be great. If there is something you want me write about that would be helpful to you let me know? Leave me a suggestion in the comments.
