sometimes blogs happen
you might be asking…
what is up with the whole occasional blogger thing?
Well it goes something like this.
I have this constant debate going on with myself where I question this whole idea of putting thoughts out there on Twitter, Facebook and blogs. I wonder what our lives would be like if we never had these little outlets for some of the random crap that we shoot out into cyberspace. I don't want it to be a documentary of my boring life. I don't want it to be someone who tells everyone what to do from an "arm-chair" quarterback position. I don't want it to be so fluffy and ambiguous that no one goes away thinking about things.
I would rather plant campuses, churches, minster to folk, design passably cool stuff and one day people really want to hear what I have to say… or maybe that never happens… perhaps I just serve Jesus, share the Gospel and go to be with Jesus with no notoriety. However it happens I am okay with it.
What I decided is that on occasion I like to put stuff out there that touches me. Once in a while there is something really weak and silly that needs to be exposed for being weak and silly, so on occasion I might throw down on that. Most of all I want to be constructive and challenging to me and to others. I want to be authentic and fight against all the pretense that seems to be rampant in the church nowadays. Let's be honest folks…
So occasionally blogs will happen and I hope you'll stop by occasionally to read.
who am I and where did I come from?
Easy…
I grew up on the West Coast of Canada.
My dad is a church planter and pastor. My earliest memories are of ministry. I'm in the family business.
I graduated from a Christian college in California with a Bachelors Degree. My work experience is mainly in media for litigation and a nice variety of church related roles.
My siblings and I are all part of churches in some capacity. I am a campus pastor and creative director, my brother leads worship in our church, my sister-in-law is the drummer. My sister and her husband are music directors at a church in the Washington DC area. My dad and mom still lead a church in the Vancouver area of Canada.
One year ago I was asked to join the church planting team of a church being planted in Southlake TX, a suburb of Dallas. At the time I had no idea what God would do… one year later I am glad I came on board. I do a lot with productions, administration and I lead a home group and preach sometimes. I live in Trophy Club, TX -I like to ride four-wheelers, shoot guns, spend time with my family and eat good food.
where am I going?
Being totally honest - I am not sure. I am just gonna stick with the gospel, our church and the ministry. I absolutely love what I do and have a passion to see this thing blow up so big that people scratch their heads and go "that must be a God thing." I have dreams of seeing our church grow, other churches and campuses being planted all over and God doing uncommonly awesome things. Honestly I think it spoils the fun to plan too far out… God has proven He likes to surprise me!
